Upcoming Full Days

ASU will be open for full days on February 17, 18, and 20th. ASU will be at Stuart Elementary school. Parents may drop off students at the Gym entrance. Please remember to pack a lunch for your child for these days. The hours of operation are 7 am - 6 pm. ASU will provide breakfast and an afternoon snack.

Thanksgiving Break

Just a reminder that ASU will be close for Thanksgiving Break next week. ASU will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Since most of the ASU staff are college students from out of town, this gives them a break to go home to see their families.

ASU will resume on Monday, November 29th.

After-School University

After-School University (ASU) is Cleveland City School's premiere after-school program. This program takes place at each elementary school and provides a safe and fun atmosphere for students.

Every day, students participate in an after school snack and homework help. After that, the students will be offered a variety of activities: arts and crafts, gym games, enrichment activities, and even playing on the playground when the weather is nice.

Students have opportunities to have small group or one-on-one tutoring, homework help, and mentoring with the college students who work with them on a daily basis. ASU staff help with spelling words, math, reading, and any other areas your child needs additional assistance.

Upcoming Full Days

Just a reminder to ASU staff and parents!

ASU will be CLOSED for Thanksgiving Break, November 24, 25, & 26th.

ASU will be OPEN for the half day on December 17th. And we will be open from December 20 - 23.

ASU will be CLOSED December 24th - December 31st.

ASU will be OPEN on January 3 & 4.

School starts back on Jaunary 5th.

These major holidays are the only times that ASU closes for any period of time. ASU is a service we provide for working parents. But, many of our employees are college students so we close during these holidays so they can spend time with their families. The should be commended for their hard work year round.

I forgot that Andy has class during that time on Thursday.....Would WED, Nov 17th at 12:30 work for you?

Also, would you like me to get lunch from Sugar and Spice again? If so, let me know what you want to eat! They have all sorts of sandwiches and quiche. Here are some of their lunch choices:

Club Sandwich
Reuben
Chicken Salad Sandwich
BLT
Smoked Turkey
Grilled Cheese
Quiche - chicken or ham or Tomato
Salads - chicken or fruit or house

I had the Tomato Quiche last time and it was super yummy!

Tentative Site Directors Meeting

I am still waiting to hear back from several Site Directors.... But I am tentatively planning on having a Site Directors Meeting on Thursday, Nov 18th. More details to follow!

Just a reminder, I need to know:
*Class conflicts for Spring 2011
*Christmas Break - who is leaving town before Dec 17?
*Christmas Break - who won't be back in town by Jan 5?

Also, Becky Hollingsworth will be visiting me on December 10th. I will need all new employees to complete their paperwork by that time! And all new employees need to view the Child Abuse Awareness on line training. It can be found here: http://www.vcu.edu/vissta/training/va_teachers/
